On the 14th of December 2012, the School of English of Trinity College Dublin hosted the first full reading in Ireland of John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost. The read-a-thon event was organised by Dr. Philip Coleman and Dr. Crawford Gribben to raise funds for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI).

The reading took place continuously over a twelve hour period in the Graduate Memorial Building and in Trinity College Chapel on the final Friday of Michaelmas Term. The college radio station, Trinity FM, broadcast the reading live and online, making it available to listeners all over the world. The event also received televised coverage in the national media.

Readers included Seamus Heaney, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Gerald Dawe, Harry Clifton, Macdara Woods, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, and Senators David Norris and Fiach Mac Conghail, as well as students and staff of the School of English and members of the wider college community.
